Notes from this Centre

The Health Assessment Advisory Service at York (Monkgate) Assessment Centre has three assessment rooms.

The Assessment Centre is currently accessed via the Jobcentre Plus entrance.

Parking is available via the Monk Bar car park (YO31 7QR) on St John Street and the Foss Bank car park (YO41 7PL) on Jewbury.

  • Work Capability Assessment for people claiming Universal Credit (UC)
  • Work Capability Assessment for people claiming Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Other benefit assessments for people claiming a range of benefits such as Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children or Veterans UK

Directions

Train

York train station is approximately 1.0 mile away from the Assessment Centre.

Leave the station and turn left, crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing. Follow the road around. At the traffic lights continue straight on, crossing the river. Continue on Dunscome Place until it becomes Precentor’s Court. Carry on to Minster Yard, then onto Deangate. Continue through Goodramgate, passing through the stone arch, and cross at the traffic lights onto Monkgate.

Car

From south (A1036)

Use the A1036 towards the city centre. On the A1036, continue towards city centre, then turn left onto Queen Street and continue over the river, passing the railway station on the left. Follow the A1036, turning left onto St Leonard’s Place, then take a right onto Gillygate. Turn right onto Lord Mayor’s Walk, then left onto Monkgate at the traffic lights.

From north (A59)

On the A59, head towards city centre then take the first exit onto A1237 at roundabout, and remain on the A1237. Take the third roundabout exit to A19 Shipton Road. Turn left onto Gillygate following A1036, then right onto Lord Mayor’s Walk. At the traffic lights, turn left onto Monkgate.

From east (A1036)On the A1036, head towards city centre and straight on at the roundabout onto Monkgate.

Bus

The nearest bus stop to the Assessment Centre is Monk Bar, directly outside the Centre.
