Notes from this Centre

The Health Assessment Advisory Service at Thornaby Assessment Centre is a second floor assessment facility. It has 13 assessment rooms.

The Assessment Centre can be accessed by lift but if an emergency evacuation of the building is required, such as a fire alarm, the lift cannot be used. There are 40 steps to the ground floor.

If you think that you would have difficulty going down the stairs unaided in the event of an emergency, please contact us at least two days before your appointment date so that we can make alternative arrangements for you.

Limited parking is available on site. Blue Badge parking is available. Alternatively, parking is also available at the Parliament Street car park (TS18 3SW).

  • Work Capability Assessment for people claiming Universal Credit (UC)
  • Work Capability Assessment for people claiming Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Other benefit assessments for people claiming a range of benefits such as Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children or Veterans UK

Directions

Train

Thornaby train station is approximately 0.4 miles away from the Assessment Centre.

Exit the station using the footbridge onto Station Street. Follow the road around to the roundabout. Christine House is on the other side of this roundabout, on the left side of Sorbonne Road.

Car

From A19 (north/south):
Take the A66 route signposted Stockton and Darlington. Take the A1130 exit, turn right and cross over the bridge. Travelling up Yale Crescent, take the first left off the roundabout onto Sorbonne Close. The Assessment Centre is on the left.

From A66 (east):

Take exit for A1045 and turn left onto A1130. Travelling up Yale Crescent, take the first left off the roundabout onto Sorbonne Close. The Assessment Centre is on the left.

From A66 (west):

Take exit for A1130. Travelling up Yale Crescent, take the first left off the roundabout onto Sorbonne Close. The Assessment Centre is on the left.

Bus

The nearest bus stop to the Assessment Centre is the Thornaby bus station stop on Mandale Road, 0.2 miles away.

Upon leaving the bus, walk downhill and turn right onto Yale Crescent. Walk towards the roundabout, and take the first left onto Sorbonne Road. The Assessment Centre is on the left.
