The Health Assessment Advisory Service at Bishop Auckland Assessment Centre is a ground floor assessment facility located in the Newgate Shopping Centre with three assessment rooms.

Disabled parking can be found to the left of the Assessment Centre, before you enter the Newgate Shopping Centre multi-storey car park.

  • PIP Assessment for people claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Work Capability Assessment for people claiming Universal Credit (UC)
  • Work Capability Assessment for people claiming Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Other benefit assessments for people claiming a range of benefits such as Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children or Veterans UK

Directions

Train

Bishop Auckland station is approximately 0.5 miles from the Assessment Centre. Exit the station onto Newgate Street. Turn left and continue up Newgate Street. The entrance is opposite the bus station and is marked ‘Jobcentre Plus’ and ‘Assessment Centre’.

Car

From A1 southbound:
Take A689 to Bishop Auckland. Continue for approximately six miles, then turn left and follow signs for A688/Bishop Auckland. At the second roundabout, take the A689/Town Centre exit. Follow the signs for A689, crossing over the lights on Newgate Street. Take the third exit at the roundabout, then take the first right onto Tenters Street. Follow the road then turn left onto George Street. Turn left again onto Sadler Street.

From A1 northbound:
Take the A68/A6072 and follow the signs for Bishop Auckland. After approximately 10 miles, take the roundabout exit for the town centre. Follow the signs for A689 and cross over the lights on Newgate Street. Take the third exit at the roundabout then the first right onto Tenters Street. Follow the instructions above from Tenters Street.

Bus

The bus station is opposite Newgate Shopping Centre, where the Assessment Centre is located.
