After your assessment

How to claim expenses

You will need to complete an expense form to have your expenses paid. You can ask a member of staff at the Assessment Centre for help filling out the form. Please keep all of your receipts.

We will pay back reasonable expenses:

  • for public transport costs from your current address to the Assessment Centre
  • at a rate per mile if you use a private vehicle
  • for fares of a relative, carer or young children who would otherwise be left unattended.

It may take up to 10 working days (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) to receive your expenses payment.

We cannot reimburse childcare costs, parking tickets or Clean Air Zone charges.

Your assessment report

After your assessment, the health professional will complete a report using criteria laid out by the government. This is to provide the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) decision maker with an impartial, justified medical opinion about how you are affected by your medical condition. DWP will let you know the outcome of your claim.

The assessment report is just one piece of information DWP uses in deciding your entitlement. The health professional who carries out your assessment does not make any decision about your benefits and will not know the outcome of your claim.

You may request a copy of the full report from DWP office handling your claim.

Please remember that we do not make decisions on benefit eligibility. If you have any questions about your benefit claim or the outcome, please speak to DWP.
